What would you do? As a Software QA Analyst you will be responsible for designing, executing, and maintaining test strategies across our technology stack which includes PHP, Python, Elasticsearch, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker and GitLab CI.
What are the details?
Primary Responsibilities:
Partner with developers to understand feature changes and design test plans that prevent regressions and production issues
Lead the QA lifecycle for each 4-week sprint: planning, test execution, regression testing, and release validation
Develop and maintain automated test suites for APIs, backend workflows, and key platform functionality
Conduct manual exploratory testing for newly built or inherited features with limited documentation
Log, document, and track bugs using GitLab, (Jira, or equivalent issue tracking tools) ensuring clear and actionable reporting
Contribute to the continuous improvement of QA processes, including sprint health metrics and test coverage reporting
Integrate testing strategies into CI/CD workflows using Docker and GitLab CI pipelines
Maintain and manage test plans and test case documentation using TestRails
What do you know?
Technical Knowledge & Experience:
Strong experience in software QA, including both manual and automated testing
Solid understanding of QA methodologies, test design techniques, and best practices
Hands-on experience testing web applications, APIs, and backend systems — especially in PHP and Python environments
Proficiency with test automation frameworks like PyTest, PHPUnit, Selenium, and Postman/Newman
Experience working with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and Git-based version control
Experience testing distributed systems and cloud-based infrastructure — ideally involving Docker, Elasticsearch and AWS
Proficient in using TestRails or equivalent for test case and test run management
Knowledge of basic security testing principles and quality gates in modern pipelines
General Knowledge & Experience:
Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to anticipate edge cases and failure scenarios
Comfortable working in agile teams, participating in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
Strong communicator who can document clearly, collaborate effectively, and advocate for product quality
Experience with performance/load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Locust)
Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
Experience writing or maintaining technical documentation, requirements, or test specifications
Applicants must be willing to work on location in our Ottawa office at least 2x per week
