Description

Your role at GEI. We are looking for a full-time Technical Specialist to join our team at our Vaughan, ON office to provide ongoing GIS support for municipal infrastructure planning projects. The successful candidate will utilize GIS to analyze and visualize environmental impacts, review regulatory compliance, and other visual representations of data for stakeholders and public engagement. Additionally, the candidate will collaborate with a team to provide day-to-day GIS technical support including but not limited to geospatial data management, mapping for reports, and conducting spatial analysis to develop infrastructure solutions. Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Under supervision of the senior staff, candidates will work on a variety of municipal water, wastewater and stormwater projects throughout Canada.
  • Participate in the development and design of cartographic mapping and reporting, ensuring company standards are met.
  • Perform data management duties and assist in the preparation of Requests for Information (RFI).
  • Capable of handling large volumes of data in varying and diverse formats, both spatial and non-spatial.
  • Assisting Infrastructure Planning staff with graphics and mapping output and providing technical support with respect to GIS.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography or related field with credible GIS capabilities.
  • 2-5 years' experience working in a GIS and/or cartography related role with a demonstrated ability to provide high-quality cartographic mapping products and communications.
  • Practical knowledge of GIS, graphic and related software including by not limited to: QGIS, ESRI ArcGIS, FME, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), MS SQL, MS Access, MS Excel.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with cartographic layouts, GIS best practices, spatial analysis techniques.
  • Interest in public communication and consultation.
  • Physical and environmental requirements for this position are available upon request.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional standing in OACETT, GIS Certification Institute or Canadian Institute of Geomatics (C.E.T., C.Tech., GISP, CGS) not required but an asset.
  • Programming or scripting experience with SQL and Python.
  • Experience with AutoCAD applications and DWG file format.
