What is the role?
As a Transportation Designer, you will play a key role in supporting the planning and design of roadways, transit systems, and traffic management projects across Ontario. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing detailed technical drawings, conducting swept path and sightline analyses, and preparing traffic control and pavement marking plans. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will collaborate closely with engineers, planners, and project teams to ensure functional, efficient, and safe transportation infrastructure designs.

In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Participate in functional reviews of development projects to ensure on-site traffic functionality and compliance with relevant municipal parking and loading design requirements.
- Draft and review technical drawings using CAD/MicroStation for a variety of projects including Construction Management, Traffic Staging, as well as Roads, Highways, Utilities and Transit projects.
- Prepare conceptual, functional, and/or preliminary designs of roadways, transit systems, and land development projects.
- Conduct detailed swept path analysis using AutoTURN to ensure operational safety.
- Create tin surfaces, alignments, profiles, and detailed sections in Civil3D.
- Prepare construction and traffic management plans for land development projects following OTM Books 6 and 7.
- Prepare pavement marking and signage plans for land development projects following OTM Book 5 and Book 11.
- Perform sightline analysis for access management utilizing TAC and relevant municipal guidelines.
- Prepare tender documents and specifications for design projects entering the construction phase.
- Conduct site visits and maintain accurate documentation of site measurements, surveys, and data summaries, and record observations following corporate reporting guidelines.
- Be familiar with and understand the Zoning bylaws for each of the different municipalities.
- Ensure that the project's requirements are met in a timely and effective manner.
- Continuously growing professional skills and knowledge through seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends, software, and technology.
- Managing other assignments within the scope of the Transportation & Systems Division.
The qualifications you need:
- Bachelors degree or college diploma in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in civil and/or transportation design and drafting, co-op work terms are counted towards experience).
- Knowledge of transportation engineering principles and jurisdictional design guidelines (e.g., TAC, MTO, OPSD, AODA), as well as municipal design standards for development projects, is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of one or more industry-relevant software tools (AutoCAD/AutoTURN, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, and/or TORUS).
- Strategic and process-oriented, with a preference for operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Team player who is also able to work independently.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Detail-oriented and effective at problem-solving.
