Position Summary:
We are seeking an Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) to lead our resident care department, with a focus on quality assurance from a nursing perspective. This person will contribute to admissions and direct clinical care within our home with a focus on the CCA team, with the Mission and Vision of Alderwood top of mind, to ensure resident-centred care is a priority. The role also contributes to promoting the health and wellbeing of the residents and their families through collaboration and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Director of Care (DOC), the ADOC will work in partnership with the DOC, and leadership team within the facility to provide exceptional resident-centered care for the residents we serve.
Admissions
- Assist DOC and Care Coordinator with the admission process as needed.
Clinical Care
- Promote quality of life for every resident and their families including meaningful activities and simple pleasures
- Perform quality audits to ensure plan of care is being executed and documented according to resident wishes and capabilities and investigate incidents related to resident wellbeing and safety
- Fill in for RN/LPN: provide direct care as needed
- Perform additional leadership roles as assigned by DOC
Onboarding & Orientation
- Coordinate and oversee new employee orientation sessions, ensuring consistency and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with DOC and HR Coordinator to ensure departmental onboarding is well-structured and timely.
- Manage and continuously improve the employee onboarding process for CCA new hires
Staff Education & Development
- Identify training needs in collaboration with DOC
- Plan, coordinate, evaluate and track all education including conferences and workshops for resident care department
- Provide opportunity for regular in house education for resident care team (ie: lunch & learn)
- Liaison with schools and facilitate placement of students who are attending post-secondary education
Performance Management & Coaching
- Complete annual performance appraisals and coaching for CCA team
- Support CCA team to work to full scope of practice and employment
- Support Nursing Team to maximize opportunities for resident engagement and fulfillment
Qualifications:
- BSc. Nursing & licensed or eligible for licensure as Registered Nurse with NSCN
- 3 years nursing experience with demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
- Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with software applications pertinent to scope of the role
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, in a timely manner
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Flexible with work schedule: may be required to work evenings, nights and weekends on an as needed basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- PIECES Training
- Dementia Understanding the Journey
- Experience in LTC setting
- Experience in a Unionized environment
