Lead Technical Writer (Hybrid) Survalent seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Lead Technical Writer to join our Product team. The Lead Technical Writer is critical in developing, enriching, and maintaining high-quality documentation for our internal and external users. Building on a foundation of technical writing expertise, this role focuses on making manuals and knowledge base articles easier to read, more practical to use, and filled with helpful information such as tips, best practices, and diagrams. What will you be doing? * Design, implement, and continuously improve documentation workflows and processes to support scalable content development and peer review. * Lead and mentor a team of technical writers by coordinating assignments, reviewing work for quality and consistency, and promoting adherence to documentation standards. * Act as the main point of coordination for technical writing activities, helping prioritize tasks and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials. * Quickly learn complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, concise, user-friendly content, following Technical Documentation guidelines and content development best practices. * Develop, write, and edit a wide range of technical materials, including deployment guides, user manuals, API documentation, knowledge base articles, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, tutorials, release notes, and customer support content. * Maintain and update existing documentation to accurately reflect product changes, enhancements, and software updates. * Collaborate closely with Product Development, System Specialists, Customer Support, and other internal teams to gather technical information and ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and easy to understand. * Research technical subject matter using drawings, schematics, engineering documentation, and interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs). * Implement AI-generated content responsibly, ensuring final materials meet standards for accuracy, clarity, and compliance. * Conduct usability and accuracy reviews of documentation, gathering feedback from users and internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvements. * Champion a user-first approach, seeking every opportunity to improve the clarity, structure, and usability of technical documentation. * Continuously look for ways to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and enhance the overall quality of the knowledgebase. What are we looking for? * Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and clarity across all technical documents and knowledgebase articles. Ability to maintain formatting, structure, and writing standards with minimal supervision. * Communication Skills: Fluent in English, both oral and written. Skilled in communicating complex technical concepts in a simple, clear, and user-friendly manner across diverse audiences. * Proactive Approach: Takes initiative in identifying documentation gaps, proposing improvements, and coordinating with product, engineering, and support teams to ensure content is complete and up-to-date. * Technical Understanding: Ability to quickly learn new software features, deployment procedures, system operations, and technical dependencies. Comfortable researching technical material from various sources including SMEs, diagrams, and system interfaces. * Leadership and Coordination: Demonstrated ability to lead technical writing activities, mentor other writers, coordinate team workloads, and uphold documentation quality standards without direct management authority. * Content Development Skills: Advanced experience writing user guides, deployment manuals, release notes, and technical support content. Familiarity with using visual aids, diagrams, and examples to enhance comprehension. * Time Management: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet tight deadlines. * Adaptability and Growth Mindset: Open to feedback, new ideas, and emerging technologies (e.g., AI content generation). Continuously seeks opportunities to improve documentation processes and end-user experience. * Commitment to User-Centricity: Passionate about creating documentation that genuinely helps users succeed, emphasizing clarity, practicality, and real-world applicability. Education, Knowledge, Skilled and Abilities * Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. * 5+ years of experience writing technical documentation for complex software or technology products. * Background or strong understanding of specialized fields such as engineering, IT, or the software industry. * Proven experience leading documentation efforts or coordinating a technical writing team. * Exceptional writing, editing, research, and organizational skills. * Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams, including developers, product managers, and executives. * Strong critical thinking skills with a passion for simplifying complex topics and enhancing the user experience. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe tools, and content publishing software. Microsoft Visio is an asset. * Highly self-motivated, action-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. * Skilled in managing multiple projects, meeting tight deadlines, and maintaining high attention to detail.
