General Accountability:

The Senior Accountant is a critical member of the global Finance team, being a resource to senior finance management and to the rest of the company in providing financial analysis to support decision making and reporting throughout the Corporation. Success will come from focused, strategic growth within the finance team. The key responsibility of this role will be working closely with the Corporate Controller in the preparation of internal and external financial reporting for the multinational corporation. As the Senior Accountant, support will be provided in various other areas, which include budgeting and forecasting and reporting analytics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the monthly results close - preparation of journal entries, review of account reconciliations and support.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly US GAAP financial statements (10-K and 10-Q)
  • Assist in the co-ordination of quarterly reviews and annual financial statement audits with external auditors
  • Monitor daily cash requirements and produce monthly cash forecasts
  • Liaise with Sales team to prepare monthly invoices and sales tracker
  • Assist with research into various accounting, VAT & tax requirements
  • Analyze and report on variances between actual vs. budgeted and forecasted results with particular emphasis on various efficiency measures and key metrics
  • Oversee tax requirements, develop and support plan for US and Canadian filings and reporting at provincial/state level
  • Collaborate with senior management and recommend on process improvements and opportunities to enhance controls
  • Accountable for regulatory filings with Security Exchange Commission (SEC) and TSX, NASDAQ
  • Special projects and ad-hoc reporting as required

Education and Certification:

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business or Accounting or related work experience
  • CPA certification or in progress of obtaining it

Key Attributes (experience, skills and technical knowledge):

  • 3 - 5 years of accounting experience
  • Advanced MS Office suite skills and familiarity with ERP systems
  • Ability to manage and manipulate large amounts of data using advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, V-lookups etc.)
  • A good understanding of the fundamentals of accounting including cost accounting, journal entries, financial reporting and financial analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately calculate, post, correct, and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Detailed and deadline-oriented individual
  • Self-motivated, proactive individual, able to adapt to frequently changing environment
