Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounts payable team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Review existing AP workflows, identify bottlenecks, and drive process enhancements to support operational efficiency.
- Supervise day-to-day AP activities including invoice processing, payments, vendor account management, and reconciliation.
- Monitor and manage monthly closing activities related to AP, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and submit HST filings in compliance with tax regulations and internal deadlines.
- Ensure timely remittance of corporate tax installments and CBSA payments to the CRA.
- Maintain internal controls by enforcing policy compliance across expense reports and supplier payments.
- Track and report on key AP performance metrics; prepare dashboards and summaries for senior leadership.
- Coordinate intercompany transactions and journal entries as part of month-end procedures.
- Produce monthly reconciliations for accounts payable, banking, and prepaid accounts.
- Partner with internal teams and external auditors to support AP and treasury-related audits.
- Stay up to date with relevant legislation and industry practices to ensure the department aligns with internal and external compliance standards.
- Contribute to the organization's broader risk management and safety initiatives, including health, food, and environmental safety protocols.
- Participate in ad hoc financial projects and support cross-functional teams as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation (completed or in progress) is strongly preferred.
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial AP role.
- Demonstrated proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, macros).
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing or product-based environment is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and present insights to senior leadership.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Solid understanding of financial compliance, tax regulations, and internal control best practices.
