Position Overview Intermediate Accountant

As an Intermediate Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary engineering firm. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and analytical professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to financial reporting, process improvements, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for managing month-end processes, reconciling accounts, supporting ERP system enhancements, and assisting with special projects and internal controls. Your Key Accountabilities

  • Financial Reporting & Month-End
    • Assist in managing financial reporting and processes, ensuring accuracy in journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end reporting.
    • Oversee month-end processes to meet reporting deadlines.
    • Performs investigations and reconciles discrepancies.
    • Performs detailed reviews, audits and variance reports.
    • Performs detailed calculations, applying proofs and reasonability tests.
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Monitor and update AR aging report, ensuring DSO KPI is maintained.
    • Oversee and escalate overdue AR accounts as necessary.
    • Calculate, review, and test foreign currency accounts and exchange gain or loss.
    • Regulatory, Insurance & Special Projects
    • Lead or contribute to professional insurance renewals, regulatory filings, and compliance certifications.
    • Lead or contribute to special projects, including grant applications and funding initiatives.
  • ERP System & Process Improvements
    • Maintains and configures key financial elements within the ERP system, including GL accounts, project attributes, tax and ledger settings.
    • Develops and implements best practices for accounting workflows and financial reporting.
    • Assist with process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Team Support & Other
    • Serve as backup to Accounting team members, providing support during absences.
    • Act as an internal resource for finance-related inquiries and helpdesk support.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred but not required.
  • 3 years of progressive experience in accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting (AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting).
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems (familiarity with AX is an asset) and accounting software.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvements and implementing internal controls.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Working Conditions

  • This position is performed in a traditional office setting.
  • Occasional extended hours may be necessary during critical financial reporting periods or organizational projects.
