If you want to play a part in shaping an innovative industry and help build a historically significant company, we want to meet you.The Lab Technician in Analytical Science is responsible for conducting analytical and microbiology testing according to GLP and other regulatory requirements. As a lab technician the staff operates equipment in a lab setting and acquiring data as the company's standard operating procedures or required by experimental designs. They also coordinate lab activities related to basic equipment maintenance, inventory management, and cleaning. The position will report to Manager, Analytical Quality in the Analytical Science group and help with the routine sample testing, documentation and chemistry lab operation activities. This position requires the staff to be highly motivated, energetic, and able to work as part of a team and at a fast pace. The ideal candidate is energetic, collaborative, and forward- thinking.This position is based out of Stayner, ON.What you'll be doing:
  • Perform sample preparation, routine chemistry and microbiology lab testing using instrument such as HPLC, GC, UV spectrometer, titrator, pH meter and basic microbiology plating techniques in accordance with experimental protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate, calibrate, and perform basic maintenance on lab instruments and equipment (HPLC, GC, UV spectrometer, titrator, pH meter, incubators, etc.) under guidance.
  • Prepare and review experimental instructions, batch records, and associate paperwork; archive testing files and electronic data in compliance with GLP, GPP standards and company policies, author and revise SOPs and other controlled documents as needed.
  • Receive, label, store, and dispose of chemicals, reagents, consumables per hazardous‑materials guidelines and SOPs.
  • Assist with chemists and microbiologists on lab investigations, method development and validation, stability projects, data interpretation and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively regarding workload, results, and any equipment or supply issues. Report deviations, non‑conformances, and incidents promptly.
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out effectively and proficiently, in a timely and professional manner, and with diligent attention to the quality of work.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory environment; perform routine cleaning and safety checks.
  • Perform all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Your Environment: (for production specific roles only)
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time
  • >80% in the laboratory
  • Ability to perform a series of repetitive operations requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity
  • Work is typically light but occasional heavy lifting and moving of boxes and gas cylinders may be required.
  • Must be comfortable with working with various chemicals, usually in small quantities in a chemistry lab and biosafety level2 microbiology lab.
  • Work hours are regular day shift Monday to Friday, but occasional off-hour work may be required
You'll need to have:
  • A minimum of a Technical Diploma from a recognized College or University or equivalent, with a focus Chemistry or a related field is required.
  • 1-2 years hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in a chemistry lab. Experience in the cannabis industry is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • A working understanding of GMP/GLP and experience working with cannabis through a Health Canada licensed laboratory will be an asset.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and good mathematical and reasoning skills are required.
  • Ability to follow complex written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent time management.
  • Able to supply acceptable Criminal Record Check.
