Position Overview

The Designer is responsible for creating conceptual layouts and detailed construction drawings for a variety of brands. These drawings will reflect each brand's unique standards while adhering to the design guidelines and constraints outlined by the Landlord's Design Criteria. Locations may vary and include traditional street-front stores, food courts, kiosks, and non-traditional settings, such as hospitals or universities, as well as combo or twin-concept spaces.

This role requires exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage shifting timelines while prioritizing high-impact projects. Reporting directly to the Director of Design and Construction, the Designer will also collaborate closely with Brand Leaders and their respective teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Evaluation: Review site or base building plans to assess their suitability for each brand's specific design standards.
  • Conceptual Design: Create sketches and designs, including space planning, exterior elevations, and exterior signage placements.
  • Design Presentation: Present conceptual and schematic design ideas to develop preliminary layouts.
  • Coordination with Stakeholders: Collaborate with Landlord's Design Criteria representatives and Brand Leaders to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Construction Coordination: Work with Engineers to produce permit and construction drawings that meet company design standards.
  • Problem Solving: Communicate with General Contractors to resolve site condition discrepancies and update plans as needed.
  • Equipment Layouts: Design equipment layouts and address any required modifications through addendum compilations.
  • Shop Drawings Review: Review and approve vendor shop drawings, including millwork, signage, menu boards, walk-in units
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with Building Standards, suppliers, consultants, and internal departments such as Construction, Operations, and Marketing.
  • Project Management: Track and coordinate project progress to ensure deadlines set by the Construction team are met.
  • Site Verification: Conduct site visits, as necessary, to verify conditions and address any issues.
  • Multiple Project Management: Efficiently handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining timelines.
Qualifications
  • Education: Post-secondary education in Interior Design or Architecture, or a Diploma/Equivalent in Architectural Technology.

Experience

  • Design Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in space planning, rendering, drafting, and presentation design.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD (version 2012 or newer).
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the food industry and familiarity with the Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR) industry is preferred.
  • Code Knowledge: Understanding of the National Building Code.
  • Rendering Abilities: Proficiency in producing renderings using tools such as SketchUp with V-Ray, 3ds Max, AutoCAD 3D, or similar software.
