Position Summary


The Shift Supervisor plays a pivotal role in leading daily operations at Encorp Pacifics Return-It IQ Centre (RIIQ) a hub for innovation, quality assurance, and R&D in beverage container recycling. Reporting to the RIIQ Director, this position ensures smooth frontline execution of sorting and counting activities, fosters a culture of safety and continuous improvement, and supports key R&D initiatives that help shape the future of materials recovery in British Columbia.

Operational Management & Efficiency

  • Supervise daily plant floor operations to ensure all activities align with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor and analyze KPIs related to material handling, container counting accuracy, productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure consistent material flow through the facility and oversee the accurate completion of Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation.
  • Coordinate and support preventative maintenance activities for plant equipment and counting/sorting systems.
  • Promptly identify maintenance needs and coordinate repairs with internal and external technical support teams.
  • Identify operational challenges and escalate trends or recurring concerns to the RIIQ Director.

Team Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Support employee performance through coaching, performance reviews, documentation, and day-to-day leadership.
  • Lead a frontline team by managing scheduling, daily assignments, and shift coverage to ensure optimal staffing levels.
  • Deliver comprehensive onboarding, job-specific, and refresher training to maintain operational consistency.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and respect on the plant floor.

Health & Safety Compliance & Risk Mitigation

  • Lead daily safety huddle meetings to reinforce safety protocols and encourage proactive reporting fostering a strong safety-first culture among staff.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and potential hazards; document findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Deliver regular safety training sessions and conduct routine safety checks to maintain high safety awareness and compliance.
  • Enforce workplace health and safety policies, ensuring a compliant and hazard-free environment.

Technical & Continuous Improvement Support

  • Collaborate with internal and external maintenance teams to minimize downtime and support equipment reliability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support process optimization projects in partnership with the R&D and quality teams.
  • Provide feedback and frontline insights to enhance operational procedures and system workflows.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Post-Secondary Degree / Diploma or equivalent combination of education and supervisory experience in Operations, Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role within a plant, warehouse, or recycling environment.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, motivation and staff development skills in a fast-paced hands-on setting.
  • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to drive process improvements with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Practical knowledge of operational KPIs, SOPs, quality control systems, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfortable with digital documentation and reporting.

Assets

  • Familiarity with automated systems, AI-based sorting, or quality assurance technologies.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of Lean Six Sigma principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety regulations.
  • First Aid Level 2 certification.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, hands-on role based at the RIIQ Center in New Westminster.
  • Active warehouse, sorting and material handling environment with moderate noise and physical demands.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and stand/walk for extended periods.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $65,000 $75,000 per year
  • Discretionary Performance bonus: 10%

  • Monday to Friday from 2-10pm
  • May include weekends
