Job Description - Senior Estimator

Position Summary

The Senior Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating costs, materials, and labor for custom-designed metal buildings. This role requires a deep understanding of metal building systems, project requirements, and the construction process. Reporting to the Estimating Manager and Director of Operations, The Senior Estimator works closely with project management, design, and sales teams to ensure bids are competitive, accurate, and aligned with client expectations. This position requires expertise in cost estimation, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle complex and large-scale projects.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

· Review blueprints, technical specifications, and project scope to prepare detailed cost estimates for custom metal buildings.

· Analyze labor, materials, and equipment needs to create accurate pricing models for bids.

· Ensure that all cost estimates reflect current market trends and industry standards.

· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to understand project requirements and align estimates with the project's needs.

· Perform risk analysis and assess potential costs related to project delays, material shortages, or design changes.

· Prepare and present comprehensive bid proposals, including breakdowns of costs, timelines, and material specifications.

· Ensure that all proposals meet client specifications and contractual requirements.

· Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify project scope, timelines, and expectations.

· Guide the sales team in responding to client inquiries and ensuring competitive pricing.

· Work closely with the project management team to review project plans and ensure estimates are consistent with construction schedules and resources.

· Maintain ongoing communication with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing and availability of materials.

· Assist in value engineering efforts by proposing cost-saving alternatives to meet client needs without sacrificing quality or safety.

· Maintain detailed records of all estimates, proposals, and project documentation for future reference and auditing.

· Monitor project budgets during construction and update estimates as necessary for changes in scope or unforeseen conditions.

· Prepare regular reports on bid status, win/loss ratios, and project cost performance.

Skills/Qualifications

· A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.

· Professional certifications in estimating or project management (e.g., AACE, PMP) are a plus.

· 7+ years of experience in estimating for metal building construction or related fields (such as steel fabrication or commercial construction).

· Over 3 years of experience using Metal Building Software (MBS).

· Proven experience in a senior estimating or project management role, ideally within the custom metal building sector.

· Strong understanding of metal building systems, materials, and fabrication processes.

· Familiarity with relevant building codes, industry standards, and best practices.

· Proficient in estimation software, spreadsheets, and project management tools (e.g., Procore, Excel, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.).

· Ability to conduct thorough cost analysis and assess risks.

· Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

· Capable of managing large amounts of complex data while maintaining accuracy.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external vendors or subcontractors.

· Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.

· Ability to work in an office and site environment, including occasional site visits for estimation and project oversight.

· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and wear necessary safety gear for site inspections.

This is a full-time, permanent
