About the IRTS

The Innu Round Table Secretariat is the implementation arm of the Round Table. It is the collective organization of the Mushuau Innu First Nation (MIFN), the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation (SIFN), and the Innu Nation. It was created for coordinated administration of common priorities including capacity development, devolution of programs, and managing the tripartite process with Canada and the province of Newfoundland & Labrador.

About the Position

The IRT Secretariat is seeking a dedicated Accounts Payable Clerk to join our finance team in Sheshatshiu, NL. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role plays a key part in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of invoices and purchase orders across all departments.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, motivated, and discreet, with a strong attention to detail and a deep respect for the confidential and sensitive nature of our work. Experience in accounting, especially within Indigenous organizations, will be considered a strong asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process and reconcile vendor invoices and purchase orders
  • Maintain vendor records and ensure timely communication of payment statuses
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and reconcile accounts at year-end
  • Regularly perform account reconciliations (weekly, monthly, quarterly)
  • Ensure correct entry and receipting of purchase orders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies between accounts payable and the general ledger
  • Support financial audits and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in Sage 300 ERP Accounting Software is essential
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to cultural sensitivity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity
  • A working knowledge of Innu culture, history, and development goals is required
