Job Summary:
VMO Aerospace seeks a detail-oriented Aircraft Structural Component Paint Preparer to prepare aircraft structural components for painting. This crucial role ensures surfaces are clean, defect-free, and properly treated for optimal paint adhesion and a high-quality finish, adhering to aviation standards and company procedures.
Responsibilities:
Thoroughly clean aircraft components using approved methods (solvent, mechanical, chemical stripping).
Identify and remove contaminants (dirt, grease, oil, fluids, corrosion, old paint).
Conduct detailed component inspections for damage and defects.
Prepare surfaces for painting via sanding, masking, and other treatments.
Apply chemical conversion coatings (e.g., Alodine) to aluminum.
Ensure accurate masking of non-painted areas (fittings, bearings, plates).
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Collaborate with painters and maintenance teams.
Maintain a strong focus on quality and detail.
Wear and maintain appropriate PPE.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in surface preparation (aerospace or automotive preferred).
Aircraft component experience highly desirable.
Knowledge of various cleaning methods (solvent, aqueous, mechanical).
Familiarity with sanding, masking, and application of chemical conversion coatings.
Understanding of aircraft materials (aluminum, steel, composites) and preparation.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and work instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and maneuver components.
