The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director Finance EV Charging, this position supports Parkland's rapidly growing EV charging business, On The Run Charging. The Sr. Financial Analyst leads the project accounting activities for the On The Run Charging business, including establishing and executing accounting processes and internal controls, supporting the construction team with planning, procurement and project tracking while leveraging existing accounting capabilities within the Canada Finance and broader On The Run Charging and Parkland teams.

Responsibilities:

Project Accounting

  • Support the project team with purchase order and contract execution, including detailed progress reporting, forecasting and delivery schedules.
  • Setup, maintain and manage project coding, including AFEs, job costs.
  • Develop and manage the detailed project progress reporting, including monthly performance appraisals, invoices trackers, commitment trackers and forecasts.
  • Support the value creation process, including look-backs, cost savings trackers and adherence to contractual terms and conditions.
  • Manage all requirements in support of government programs, including ChargeOn (province of Ontario) and Quebec provincial funding, as well as the Canada Infrastructure Bank credit facility.

Accounting, Audit & Compliance

  • Ensure data integrity of financial systems, by ensuring compliance to financial procedures and accounting guidelines.
  • Correctly apply financial and accounting policies to reflect a truthful representation of the company's financial position.
  • Ensure timely cash conversion (billing, collections, and accounts receivable) and credit management.
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close process and assure that all accounting allocations are appropriately made and documented, regardless of whether the activities are performed remotely.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with other finance teams, including Treasury, Tax and Shared Services.
  • Execute inventory and asset control audits and share accountability with the business to ensure effective inventory and asset management.
  • Identify and report compliance exceptions, including settlements, outstanding incidents, and potential legal claims.
  • Support Delegation of Authorities compliance in the organization.

Operational & Service Excellence

  • Demonstrates commitment towards continuous improvement initiatives and willingness to challenge existing practices. Establishes common streamlined processes and internal controls, as well as drives automation in a cost-effective manner to enable On The Run Charging to manage and reduce its costs .
  • Monitors and ensures processes are developed and maintained in accordance with corporate policy, SOX compliance, tax reporting and other regulations,
  • Subject Matter Expert of On the Run Charging's ERM and supporting software (e.g. JDE, OneStream): identify requirements, write test scripts, participate in testing upgrades, provide training to team members, and act as a change agent for enhancements as applicable.

Leadership

  • Provides informal coaching, direction and leadership support while promoting a client-focused, solution-based delivery results to align with Service Level Agreements.
  • Facilitates the individual team member goal setting process and personal development.
  • Promotes Health and Safety amongst all team members.

Education:

  • Professional Accounting Designation and/or Post-Secondary Business or Finance Degree.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in progressive and responsible roles related to financial and management accounting.
  • Experience working in a strong customer service focused environment.
  • Fluency in French is considered a plus.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to think outside of the box, deal with ambiguity and challenge information
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Create a positive climate where team spirit and coordination are fostered.
  • Strong system skills including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Allegro, JDE, Hyperion and Power BI considered an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of financial systems, processes and internal controls including a working knowledge of GAAP (IFRS)
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to ensuring deadlines are achieved.
