Position Overview

The Applications Engineer will serve as a key technical and commercial support resource for internal teams, external customers, consulting engineers, and contractors. You will be responsible for developing technical solutions and proposals for upgrading existing systems and supplying configurable equipment. This role involves evaluating customer specifications, assessing site constraints, estimating costs, and preparing detailed and accurate proposals. The Applications Engineer will collaborate closely with the Commercial Sales team, Product Management, and Supply Chain to deliver solutions that meet customer needs and drive growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer requirements and site-specific challenges to develop innovative, cost-effective technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team, clients, and engineering representatives to review existing treatment systems and identify upgrade opportunities.
  • Evaluate customer RFQs and technical inquiries by reviewing specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed budgetary and firm proposals, incorporating accurate scope and pricing aligned with customer specifications.
  • Estimate engineering, equipment, freight, assembly, and commissioning costs using historical data, vendor quotations, and internal resources.
  • Determine shipping and logistics costs from fabrication sites to customer locations.
  • Partner with Supply Chain on equipment lead times, availability, and project scheduling.
  • Maintain organized records of cost data, technical documentation, and configuration options.
  • Support internal knowledge sharing by documenting lessons learned and common field modifications.
  • Participate in contract kickoff meetings to facilitate seamless project handoff to the execution team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in equipment-based solution delivery for municipal or industrial water/wastewater treatment markets.
  • Strong understanding of water treatment technologies, including membranes and general familiarity with processes such as clarification, filtration, disinfection, etc.
  • Proven experience interpreting and applying technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents throughout the project lifecycle—from design through startup.
  • Prior field or hands-on experience with water treatment systems is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Solid understanding of treatment processes, mechanical systems, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, general arrangements, construction drawings, and single-line diagrams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in both independent and team environments.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability with a focus on customer satisfaction and value creation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
  • Working knowledge of project bid preparation and cost estimating processes.
