We are looking for a full-time Estimator to work out of our client's head office in Oakville.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
Our client currently has an opportunity for an Estimator. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively as a key member of the estimating team. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Construction Estimator is responsible for helping projects come to life by accurately estimating the overall costs of delivery. You'll be involved in work procurement and pre- and post-contract award activities for complex projects in the industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) sector.
You'll develop project estimates and budgets by analyzing drawings, specifications, and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors. When projects are complete, you'll analyze and compare final costs to estimates and prepare reports and recommendations to resolve concerns about budgets and materials.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Uphold and maintain the company's core values throughout daily tasks.
  • Manage and lead the procurement strategy set forth by the Leadership Team.
  • Prepare tender packages and issue to sub-contractors, including closing of sub-contractor proposals, bid analysis, summaries, and recommendations based on scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Participate, coordinate, and host site tours and visits.
  • Work with the Pre-Construction team to establish a scope of work prior to submitting a budget.
  • Assemble and respond to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and Requests for Quotations (RFQ), including preparing RFP/RFQ deliverables such as bid forms, bonding forms, and insurance requirements.
  • Prepare accurate and well-organized budgets, estimates, and proposals upon request of Clients, Engineers, and Architects.
  • Prepare conceptual estimates, fully designed estimates, and design-build estimates.
  • Prepare all or parts of detailed quantity takeoffs, including general requirements, internal labor hours, and insurance requirements.
  • Prepare preliminary construction schedules for estimating purposes.
  • Establish and maintain a database of centralized labor and material unit pricing, trade partners, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Assess potential project risks by reviewing drawings and specifications and informing the senior team.
  • Coordinate post-tender discussions and participate in negotiations.
  • Monitor and update project budgeting documents and issue addendums as needed.
  • Work with and resolve concerns raised by field staff related to budgets and materials, ensuring project managers and field staff have the proper documentation and direction.

ABOUT YOU:
you are perfect for this role because you have:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an estimating role with a General Contractor or Design/Build Firm.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Design/Build and concept drawing estimating experience.
  • Experience estimating projects ranging from $500,000 to $40 million.
  • Experience estimating projects in the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors. The initial focus will be tenant improvements, interior construction, and renovations. Experience with commercial/industrial shell building construction and mid-rise construction estimating is required.
  • Good understanding of various contract types (CCDC 14, CCDC 2, and CCDC 5a & 5b).
  • Good understanding of sub-contractor contracts (CCA 1).
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Strong computer skills and experience using take-off software (e.g., On Center, Blue Beam).
  • A Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), Gold Seal Certificate (GSC), or Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) designation is not required but considered an asset.
