The Role

Down Smash Studios® is in search of a 2D/UI Artist to join our growing team and take part in building a top quality Unreal Engine 4 game. The ideal artist has extensive experience concepting visually impressive concept images, user interface elements, and promotional materials. The candidate should be self-managing, intuitive, and comfortable working in an Agile Environment (scrum). Passion for playing video games is a must!

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

● Work closely with leadership and art teams to craft stunning imagery that accurately represents the game's artistic vision and tone

● Create iconography and interface elements such as icons, logos, maps, and HUD assets for in-game usage

● Conceptualizing original environments, props, buildings, and creatures that blend together visually and cohesively

● Contribute to all stages of production by researching and crafting visual assets such as detailed mock-ups, paint-overs, design sketches, renders, and marketing materials

● Meet quality benchmarks and deadlines in a timely manner

Qualifications and Requirements

● Proven experience creating digital illustrations and user interfaces for video games

● Knowledge of UI best practices and an eye for optimization

● A portfolio demonstrating capabilities as a 2D and UI artist

● Knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 is an asset

● Up-to-date with the latest gaming trends and news

● Detail-oriented, organized, and consistently able to meet deadlines

● Self-motivated with a positive attitude

● Unmatched creativity and a willingness to learn and adapt to dynamic environments

● Functions well on a team – collaboration and communication skills are important
