Who we are
Hummingbird is a craft chocolate maker with an international reputation. We are expanding our production to meet demand across the country.
About you
While you may not have chocolate experience, you have a background in food and beverage production. Most of all, you have a desire to learn the craft of chocolate making.
What you will do
As a trainee Chocolate Maker, your day will vary greatly depending on your role. You could start your day learning about equipment and processes. Later on, you could be putting this into practice by actually crafting bulk chocolate or making delicious confections.
Training
Based on your experience and expertise, you will receive a thorough grounding on all aspects of chocolate production including:
- learning about basic food safety and workplace safety
- understanding and then safely operating all equipment systems
- chocolate making and the art of the chocolatier
- clean facility, maintain equipment, keep records
Required background
We seek a person who is creative, hard-working, and enjoys learning new things.
Other requirements:
- some experience in food production / formal training or education an asset
- capacity to learn and then operate equipment
- ability to lift 15kg weight
- strong verbal and written communication skills / basic computer skills
Career progression
This is a career track position. Depending on your background, interest and company need, within a year you'll likely specialize, either by focusing on chocolate making, creating bon bons as a chocolatier, or perhaps crafting some confections.
Working conditions
You will be working out of our Almonte facility, about 40 minutes west of downtown Ottawa. (Note, there is no public transportation). You will work five days a week, including one week-end day.
