POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the General Superintendent, Western Canada, the General Superintendent will be responsible for assigning Superintendents to projects and managing their day-to-day scheduling, as well as playing a key administrative and operational leadership role within the Region. Regular coordination with operations leaders across Canada is required to sufficiently resource all Milestone projects, which include environmental remediation, civil infrastructure upgrades, and emergency response efforts in both urban and remote locations.

This role requires strong leadership, cross-functional coordination, and a commitment to fostering a safe, productive, and inclusive work environment. The General Superintendent will also perform site-specific Superintendent duties as scheduling demands. Overseeing the execution of the MECI Safety Program for operations is a critical aspect of this role, in close collaboration with the Regional HSE Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct regular site visits to active projects and assess operational compliance.
  • Support project teams in recognizing and managing scope changes onsite.
  • Attend project kick-off meetings as required.
  • Coordinate scheduling and assignments of Superintendents to projects across Western Canada.
  • Collaborate with the Equipment & Personnel Manager for effective utilization of MECI equipment and materials.
  • Ensure Supervisors complete daily reporting requirements through digital platforms.
  • Conduct performance reviews, goal setting, and mentorship for Superintendent team.
  • Support HR with recruiting, onboarding, and field staff development initiatives.
  • Promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion within project teams and field operations.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of company systems including Salus, BambooHR, Heavy Job, and Concur.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Interact with clients professionally and proactively resolve job site issues to maintain project timelines.
  • Conduct monthly Superintendent team meetings and contribute to leadership development.
  • Participate in developing means and methods, setting production rates, and supporting resourcing for estimates.
  • Participate in bid reviews.
  • As needed, perform all duties required of a Superintendent.

Health and Safety:

  • Uphold and promote MECIs Corporate Health and Safety Program, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in HSE initiatives, including annual reviews of SWPs and JSAs and distribution of updates to field teams.
  • Provide coaching to Superintendents and field staff on safety expectations and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to emergency response events across the region as they arise.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction management.
  • Proven leadership experience with cross-regional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve site and scheduling issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience planning, organizing, and executing projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction management platforms (Heavy Job, Salus, Concur, BambooHR).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in construction and remediation projects.
  • Certifications such as Gold Seal Certification (GSC), PMP, NCSO, or CSTS are considered an asset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant post-secondary education or advanced certifications preferred.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires a mix of field and office work.
  • Travel across Western Canada is required to support project sites and office teams.
  • Availability to respond to emergency events on short notice is necessary.
