Bruce Auto Group is seeking a highly motivated Controller to join our Accounting team in Yarmouth, NS. The Controller is responsible for supporting the direction and management of the company's accounting functions. This includes the development and maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures, as well as the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports. The role also involves overseeing the accounting systems and implementing improvements as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the management of daily accounting operations, including document review, journal entries, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and reporting.
Supervise the accounting team leads and junior accountants, including conducting performance reviews and regular one-on-one meetings.
Review payroll reports and accruals; responsible for processing payroll.
Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company policies and procedures.
Provide analytical support to the Director of Dealership Accounting and Corporate Controllers by reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual dealership performance results.
Collaborate with the accounting and operations teams to identify and improve processes that impact efficiency and quality.
Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting and information.
Offer guidance on accounting and payroll matters, including financial systems, recordkeeping, reporting, and analysis.
Help prioritize tasks and projects within the accounting department.
Coordinate year-end audits and the preparation of audited financial statements.
Provide necessary documentation and support during internal and external audits.
Generate reports comparing actual performance against budgets.
Improve receivables collection processes through enhanced control mechanisms.
Approve cheques, purchase orders, and invoices in line with Bruce Automotive's signing authority policy.
In collaboration with Executives and the Director of Dealership Accounting, assist in developing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Perform regular reconciliation of accounting schedules and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the automotive industry
- Strong proficiency in advanced computer applications
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Experience in audit processes and financial analysis
- Travelling when required
