Job Description

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist performs specialized Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations on clients to assist with client diagnosis and treatment. This position assumes basic administrative responsibilities related to the conduct of examinations within the MRI department.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • performing MRI exams in accordance with MRI best practices to ensure pt safety;
  • completing and verifying MR screening process and identifying potential safety concerns, addressing safety hazards and documenting all safety information. Identifying potential contraindicated devices and implement appropriate procedures to ensure patient safety;
  • assessing MRI requests for appropriateness and correlating client's clinical information to adapt exams to patient's physical and cognitive status/condition;
  • evaluating image quality and artifacts, and take appropriate action to produce quality diagnostic MR exams;
  • operating MR equipment by selecting proper parameters, protocols, sequences and coils, adaptation of MR parameters to patient's ability, ensure patient comfort/safety;
  • communicating with Radiologists and other Healthcare providers about patient exams, patient needs and requirements for diagnostic MRI exam;
  • assuring MRI equipment and ancillary equipment is used appropriately and safely;
  • performing cleaning of MR equipment/room and ensures MR safety at all times;
  • performing post processing computer manipulations to produce diagnostic data;
  • performs safe work practice and sterile procedures during IV contrast injections;
  • ensuring effective utilization of MR equipment and MR resources;
  • maintaining appropriate use of R.I.S and P.A.C.S systems;
  • assisting in training students and other Healthcare providers;
  • assisting in educating patients, families, public and other Healthcare providers regarding MRI safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • must have successful completion of a formal study in Medical Radiation Technology from a recognized program supplemented by an additional diploma relating to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging;
  • successfully completed the Canadian Association of Medical Radiological Technology MRI exams;
  • must be registered with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) and the College of Allied Health Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (PEIAMRT) and the College of Allied Health Professionals of Prince Edward Island (CAHPPEI);
  • excellent written and oral communication skills are required;
  • ability to work independently and/or as a member of a multi-disciplinary team is required;
  • applicants must be a good previous work and attendance record;
  • some MRI experience preferred;
  • additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset;
  • the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to beginning employment;
  • additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $34.23 – $42.00 per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours bi-weekly Monday – Friday
