Job Description

Our client, an employee-owned company that provides engineering and environmental services to public and private sector clients, is seeking a Senior Construction Administrator out of their Guelph or Mississauga office. This is a permanent, full-time position, paying a base salary between 95-125k, along with a competitive benefits and vacation package.

We are looking for a Senior Contract Administrator with experience in large scale infrastructure projects executed/constructed under the Design-Build and Public-Private-Partnership models, who is a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical, technical and interpersonal skills to join our team. The responsibilities of the offered position will include:

  • Senior Construction Administration of municipal infrastructure, water resource engineering projects through direct contract, Design-Build and PPP contracts, including all associated duties including but not limited to:
  • Working collaboratively as part of our team and with stakeholders and clients
  • Overseeing Deputy Contract Administrators and Junior and Senior Construction Inspection (CI) staff and reviewing documents for QA/QC purposes;
  • Tracking construction progress including schedules, proper record keeping including the preparation of inspection reports, tracking logs, and as-built documentation.
  • Third party Utility Coordination
  • Facilitating meetings and preparation of meeting minutes;
  • Reviewing, responding, and approving project schedules, RFQs, RFIs, shop drawings and submittals in a timely fashion;
  • Undertaking negotiations and conflict resolution procedures with contractors as part of pricing reviews, changes in work, and contract enforcement within Design-Build and PPP contracts;
  • Tracking of quantities and payment certificate processing;
  • Overseeing the construction and provide interpretation of the drawings to the contractor as necessary;
  • Ensuring that contractor's methodology comply with requirements of design, contract and legislative requirements;
  • Review the appropriateness of alternative construction methods/approaches;
  • Inspect all aspects of the work to ensure compliance with the contract specifications and drawings and that all works are completed in good workmanship;
  • Notify the Contractor of deficiencies in the construction of the work, instructing the contractor to take appropriate corrective measures, confirm and report results of the corrective measures during construction;
  • Coordinate and oversee quality assurance testing;
  • Preparation and execution of change orders and directives including scheduling and costs or credits;
  • Preparation and issuance of substantial Performance certificate and project close-out;

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • University degree or College diploma.
  • A minimum of 10 years of construction administration experience executing Design-Build and Public-Private-Partnership contracts involving large scale municipal infrastructure and water resource engineering projects.
  • Proficient in CCDC documents and contract execution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and write detailed technical reports and documents.
  • Valid Class G Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle is required.
  • Experience in the construction of water resources infrastructure such as flood control, storm sewer infrastructure, watercourse restoration and stormwater management facilities (i.e. SWM Ponds, LIDs, etc) would be considered an asset.
  • Additional qualification and training in the field of contract administration and project management (e.g. CCCA, CDT, PMP etc) would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of municipal standard templates and construction inspection procedures for GTA municipalities would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Primavera V6 and Microsoft Project scheduling software and Builterra would be considered an asset.
  • CET or P.Eng designations would be considered an asset.
  • General working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads, and AutoTURN would be considered an asset.
