IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY

Interim Chief Financial Officer

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Duration: 3-5 Months

Location: Toronto, ON

Our client, a well-regarded Canadian not-for-profit regulator, is seeking a seasoned professional to assess and elevate the finance function whilst engaging and inspiring the current team through a transition. This is an exciting mandate for a seasoned hands-on leader who loves driving change and making an impact.

The CFO is a key member of the executive team, responsible for providing strategic financial leadership and ensuring the integrity of the organization's financial operations. The CFO will oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management, to support the organization's mission.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coach, engage and support a talented finance and IT team.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, supporting decision-making on financial matters, policy development, and strategic planning.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors to support decision-making.
  • Lead financial reporting and audits, presenting findings to the board and CEO to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Help the organization navigate successfully through a lease renewal and plan for an office move.
  • Oversee all financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and procurement functions. Ensure the effective and accurate processing of financial transactions and adherence to internal controls.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, forecasting, reports, and analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards, including those specific to Ontario's delegated administrative authorities.
  • Manage the organization's cash flow, investments, and financial reserves.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Ministry, ensuring accurate and timely compliance.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to deliver monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors, offering clear insights into financial health and performance.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, forecasting, reports, and analyses.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to deliver monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors, providing clear insights into financial health and performance. Communicate financial performance, strategies, and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, staff, and the public, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls and financial policies.
  • Oversee safe and secure facility operations, including vendor contracts, procurement processes, and capital improvement budgets.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Represent the organization in financial discussions and negotiations with government agencies and other partners.

Qualifications & Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A master's degree or professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA) is highly preferred.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and changing management skills with the ability to inspire and guide teams through periods of transformation.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience working in a regulatory or public sector environment is an asset.
  • Proven track record of strategic financial planning and execution.
  • Strong understanding of financial technologies, data analytics, and their application within a regulatory or public sector environment.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
