Introduction
Our client is seeking a Facility & Maintenance Supervisor to lead day-to-day facilities and maintenance operations at a newly established GMP-compliant manufacturing site. This position will be responsible for managing internal maintenance teams, coordinating third-party contractors, and establishing systems that support long-term operational reliability and compliance.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting the site's startup phase, helping to build a strong technical foundation and operational culture as the facility scales up to full GMP production. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who excels in fast-paced, technical environments and is committed to continuous improvement, safety, and regulatory excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of the site's preventative maintenance schedule, ensuring work orders and tickets are completed accurately and on time.
- Assign daily tasks to maintenance technicians based on production demands and operational priorities.
- Coordinate planned maintenance activities with equipment owners and other internal stakeholders.
- Ensure that all facility areas are maintained to required operational, cleanliness, and GMP standards.
- Manage the transition and use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including asset tracking and maintenance KPIs.
- Oversee third-party contractors and vendors performing services such as HVAC, electrical, pest control, waste management, and general facility upkeep.
- Approve work permits and manage contract renewals for service vendors.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation systems as needed.
- Lead maintenance activities on complex technical systems, such as containment chambers, isolators, BSCs, and other specialized equipment.
- Monitor inventory of spare parts, consumables, and tools to ensure operational readiness.
- Provide after-hours or on-call maintenance support when required.
- Ensure documentation complies with GMP, provincial, and federal regulatory standards.
- Drive improvements and lead change controls related to the preventative maintenance program.
- Provide performance and improvement reports to site management and recommend equipment or process enhancements.
- Support training for new maintenance hires, both hands-on and documentation-related.
- Participate in safety training and ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, radiation protection, and environmental standards.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a GMP-compliant manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Direct experience with GMP standards is required.
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and be on-call (rotating schedule).
- Experience in facility startups or commissioning environments is a strong asset.
- Willingness to adjust working hours to meet operational needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, crawling).
- Willingness to be trained and certified as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), if required.
