Our client is one of the largest and fastest-growing propane distribution companies in Canada. They are a fast-moving, customer-facing, field-based business operating coast to coast with over 400 team members. They strive to be the undisputed propane leader in North America.
We are currently supporting them in their search for a Finance Analytics Specialist—a high-impact role focused on financial data analysis, systems integration, data visualization, and reporting automation initiatives, with a specific emphasis on propane pricing. This person will play a critical role in analyzing market ranges, supplier pricing trends, and internal cost structures to support pricing strategy and supplier negotiations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical skills, business acumen, and a deep understanding of data visualization tools.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Propane Pricing Analytics: Build and maintain dashboards and analytical models to monitor propane pricing, analyze supplier trends, and evaluate market ranges to guide pricing strategy.
- Supplier Negotiations: Speak directly with propane suppliers to discuss and negotiate rates, leveraging data-driven insights to reduce procurement costs.
- Data Visualization & Reporting: Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and visual reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent platforms to provide real-time insights for finance and leadership teams.
- Data Investigation & Analysis: Lead deep-dive analyses into financial data, identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for strategic improvement.
- Data Integration Management: Oversee and ensure the accuracy and consistency of financial data across various systems through effective integration processes.
- Modeling & Automation: Create robust financial models and automate reporting using Excel (Macros, VBA, Power Query), SQL Server, and Python to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.
- Collaborative Support: Partner with finance teams to address data-related challenges, improve workflow automation, and clarify financial metrics across the organization.
- Process Optimization: Recommend and implement improvements to existing analytics and reporting processes, enhancing scalability and performance.
- Training & Development: Provide training on data tools and analytics best practices, including visualization platforms, to finance team members.
What You'll Need To Be Successful:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in financial data analysis, including financial modeling, reporting automation, and pricing analytics.
- Excel Mastery: Expert-level skills in Excel, including Macros, VBA programming, and Power Query.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Access (or other databases), SQL Server, and Python for querying, data manipulation, and model development.
- Data Visualization Expertise: Proven experience creating dashboards and visual analytics using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Financial Modeling: Ability to design, automate, and interpret advanced financial models with accuracy and insight.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate data into business insights that drive decision-making.
- Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of financial concepts, pricing strategies, and cost structures.
- Strong Communicator: Capable of explaining complex data concepts and financial terms clearly to non-technical audiences.
