THE ROLE
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, the position is responsible for designing pump sets based on customer requests provided by Sales Representatives. The position also provides detailed instructions to the manufacturing department on building the assemblies.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Reviews Pump set Forms (PSF) email requests from Inside Sales Representatives to start production orders.
· Compares PSF information to ensure it is accurate; sales order (SO) number, production (PRO) number, quantities, sold to, and ship-to against sales order details in Prophet P21 ERP system.
· Confirms SO does not have holds such as pending credit approval.
· Ensures primary parts (i.e., pump, motor, control panel, mechanical seal, special parts) on the PSF are in the P21 database.
· Convert information on PSF into technical drawings for customer approval. Design pump set base assemblies (including bases, when required) using Inventor CAD software.
· Calculates weights for structure and structural forces such as bending moments.
· Creates layouts indicating dimensions, fastening methods, machine surfaces and other requirements for the assembly of pump sets.
· Provides instruction and comments pertaining to installations of a system or pump set.
· Reviews and complies with the customer's Engineering Specification as it applies to the pump set design guidelines.
· Communicates with Inside Sales Representative on the design details and specifications for pump set base assembly or system.
· Provides general assembly drawings of a pump set to the Inside Sales Representative for approvals.
· Assists the Manufacturing department with updates and maintains customer's pump set delivery dates.
· Communicates and requests supplier quotes for bases and parts (i.e., sheaves, belts, paints, etc).
· Requests supplier quotes for existing and new fabricated bases, equipment drives, and new base drawings.
· Looks for opportunities to modify and revise base designs to reduce costs, assembly errors or decrease assembly time required.
· Develops standards and specifications for vertical, horizontal, and direct driven pump sets.
· Assigns part numbers to the bases, materials, and parts used in the fabrication of pump bases.
· Populates new Production orders with required parts# and quantities, components and estimated labor requirements
· Creates production work orders for “standard” bases to be put into stock.
· Issues fabrication and assembly drawings of standard bases to the manufacturing department and the vendor.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
· CET Designation (Certified Engineering Technologist)
· Over 4-5 years of related experience in Mechanical design and engineering.
· Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD Inventor CAD software.
· Strong computer skills; proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word etc.).
· Ability to communicate details visually, verbally and in writing of assembly instructions as it pertains to the assembly of bases and systems.
· Must have a valid driver's license and own vehicle.
· Ability to travel Canada-wide and internationally (customer and supplier meetings, tradeshows, conferences etc.).
Desirable:
· Certification in mechanical design, CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor Certified Professional)
· PMP or CAPM certification
