Summer Building and Landscaping Assistant
Contract - Temporary Full Time, (Comp# NBIH-2025-05-14)
LOCATION: 1040 Brookes Street, North Bay, ON
Under the direction of the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH), this position will be responsible to assist with various aspects of landscaping and grounds maintenance, including mowing, weeding and general upkeep of outdoor spaces. This position will also include assisting with general building maintenance indoors. The Summer Building and Landscaping Assistant will participate in the process of community development for strengthening community wellness that is congruent with the overall Vision, Mission and Values of the North Bay Indigenous Hub.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in lawn care which includes mowing, raking, weeding and pruning hedges, trees and shrubs. Removing debris and keeping the grounds free of hazards
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance outdoors and indoors
- Experience operating and maintaining landscaping tools and equipment including lawnmowers and whipper-snipper
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Demonstrated good time management skills
- Willingness to obtain training pertaining to occupational health and safety as well as WHMIS
- A recent (within 3 months) Criminal/Police Records Check and Vulnerable Persons Check
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of gardening practices
- Basic knowledge of minor building maintenance and repairs
- Able to meet the physical demands of working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent critical thinking skills and problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a manner respectful of First Nations culture, values, and beliefs
- Ability to act professionally and work with minimal supervision
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensuring the grounds at the North Bay Indigenous Hub are kept safe and clean
- Daily inspection of the grounds for potential safety concerns and reporting the concerns
- Emptying and replacing the trash bags indoors and outdoors daily
- Working safely and following all required safety guidelines
A current Criminal/Police Records Check and Vulnerable Persons check is a requirement for this position.
