With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,400 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Human Resources Supervisor provides consultative support and works closely with management in the implementation of corporate policies related to human resources, organizational design and talent management strategies and initiatives at the business unit or division level. Consults with employees and managers to address root causes of human resources issues, attempting to resolve employee relations issues with a systematic approach. Participates in company-wide programs and initiatives (e.g., salary review, stock renewal, strategic and workforce planning, organizational change). Assists senior management including our Human Resources Manager in the development of solutions through organizational development and cultural and process-oriented perspectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide facility supervision with advice and counsel on personnel issues;
  • Ensure regulatory compliance;
  • Stay current on recent Federal, Provincial and case law changes and monitor labor law updates for changes that affect Human Resources;
  • Be an active and available resource for all employees, supervisors and managers addressing all employee relations issues in a professional and timely manner. Conduct sensitive and complex workplace investigations.
  • Process and implement formal disciplinary action of employees, initiate termination procedures and put into action as needed;
  • Prepare and maintain records and procedures for controlling personnel transactions and reporting personnel data;
  • Responsible for the alignment of HR practices with corporate culture and business strategies, while providing innovative solutions and approaches to human capital challenges.
  • Establish, evaluate and maintain departmental reports and key indicators;
  • Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to assist in continual improvements in efficiency of HR department and services performed;
  • Direct local benefits administration, enrollment and open enrollment meetings;
  • Work in partnership with team leaders to provide recognition to teams and team members, celebrate success and encourage pride in the workplace. Assist with planning and execution of corporate events.
  • Manage internal company communications including bulletin boards, company newsletters, social media, etc;
  • Ensure the organization's compliance with local, provincial and federal regulations;
  • Maintain company organization charts and employee directory;
  • Partner with management to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with business initiatives;
  • Coach leaders towards best practice execution of people management responsibilities. And support talent assessment, performance management processes.
  • Identify and evaluate changes in industry practices and business trends, and capitalize on opportunities that will improve the Company's competitive position.
  • Ensure that all files, paperwork and record keeping are up-to-date and accurate as well as in compliance with governmental requirements (including legal issues, complaints, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in a related field is required
  • Experience in a Unionized environment considered an asset.
  • 1-3 years' experience in meat processing or other manufacturing/industrial setting is preferred
  • Communication/public relations skills required
  • Ability to work in split shift, shift rotation and weekends, if required

FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION
