Point Hope Maritime is looking for a dedicated and qualified HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environmental) Specialist to join our team. The HSSE Specialists role is to ensure personnel comply with company HSSE Management System requirements in line with objectives set by the HSSE Manager and regulatory requirements.

HSSE Officer - Essential Duties:

  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with this Position Description, and the Point Hope Maritime (PHM) HSSE Annual Activities Plan.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with line supervision, co-workers, clients, and others.
  • Perform Risk Management activities to support PHMs operations (e.g., Permits-to-Work, Energy Isolation [Lock Out / Tag Out], Atmospheric Testing, Field Level Hazard Assessment [FLHA]).
  • Coordinate and complete hazard, incident and injury/illness reports, inspections and investigations.
  • Assist line supervision with risk management activities.
  • Maintain a visible presence and monitor company, client, and contractor personnel for compliance with Company HSSE policies and procedures, and government regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the HSSE Department at project progress meetings (e.g., Kick-Off meetings, Project Team meetings), when required.
  • Draft and submit HSSE equipment and materials requisitions accurately and completely.
  • Report on HSSE statistics in required formats and within required time periods.
  • Provide BC Advanced First Aid coverage to PHM site operations.
  • Conduct internal HSSE Department audits/inspections of PHMs operations, as required.
  • Represent HSSE Department at external audits/inspections of PHMs operations (e.g. WorkSafe BC; Capitol Regional District, Green Marine & ISO audits)
  • Emergency Response Team (ERT) member.
  • Conduct training for specific courses this person and position is qualified to provide (e.g. WHMIS 2015).
  • Confined Space Entry and gas testing/ monitoring.
  • Assist the Joint Occupational Safety & Health (JOSH) Committee with HSSE reviews and revisions.
  • Exercise the right to refuse unsafe work and the obligation to stop any found.
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time by the HSSE Manager.
  • Act in a professional manner to protect the Companys reputation with Governments, local business communities, and peoples with which PHM interacts.

Minimum Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum three (3) years Marine or Industrial production setting
  • PHM Health, Safety, Security & Environment Coordinator, or equivalent Diploma in Health, Safety & Environmental studies preferred.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office and supporting software
  • Advanced First Aid (Previously OFA Level 3)
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018
  • Reliability Clearance Level Canadian Industrial Security Directorate; Government of Canada.

HSSE Coordinator Skills & Proficiencies:

  • Flexible, with solid interpersonal skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently without little direct supervision.
  • Ability to interpret marine vessel technical plans and specifications.
  • Conduct in compliance with the Ralmax Group Code of Business Conduct.
  • Earned authority by demonstrated integrity, honesty and performance on the job.

HSSE Coordinator Work Conditions:

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week. Monday- Friday. Flexible time, however, accommodating core hours(0730-1600), and able to work overtime (after hours and weekends)
  • Indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Walking on rough surfaces; climbing up/down stairs and ladders; entering confined spaces; working at height.
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. (23 kg).
