The Human Resources Specialist provides support for human resources related matters in accordance with applicable legislation and internal policies and processes. As a member of the Human Resources team, this role is the primary contact for employees regarding most human resources policies and practices. In working with employees, this role ensures all interactions and resolutions are conducted with the highest adherence to integrity, confidentiality, and timeliness.
This is a 16-month term position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the timely and accurate execution of human resources processes in accordance with established procedures and timelines.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day HR-related inquiries from employees, including those related to the HRIS system.
- Respond to employee questions related to payroll and benefits in a timely and professional manner.
- Monitor and support employee programs such as the Referral Bonus Program, Service Awards, and other recognition initiatives.
- Assist in the ongoing implementation and optimization of UltiPro (UKG) modules.
- Collaborate with the HR team on various projects and initiatives, providing support as needed.
- Liaise with the Payroll Administration Team to communicate employee changes and ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Maintain, monitor, and recommend improvements to employee engagement and recognition programs, including Co-op placements, Referral Bonuses, Service Awards, and the Duckie program.
- Research, propose, and help coordinate wellness initiatives; contribute content and updates for internal employee communications.
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role involving HR, Payroll and Benefits in multiple countries
- In-depth knowledge of applicable provincial laws governing human resources management, including the Employment Standards Act.
- Understanding and knowledge of human resources management disciplines including compensation, pension and benefits, labor relations and training.
- Strong relationship management skills coupled with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels.

- College Diploma or University Degree in HR, Accounting, Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to attain and maintain up to a top-secret security clearance.
- Ability to work from our Kanata office 2 times per week.
Preferred competencies
- Experience with Ultipro HRIS or similar HRIS system
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV (NAVHR)
- Strong skills with Microsoft office tools (particularly excel and word)
How we work
You will be expected to work in a remote/hybrid environment reporting to our Kanata, Ontario location 2 or more times per week.
