The position:
We are actively seeking a full-time Building Energy Modeller at our growing location in Edmonton, AB.
What will you be doing?
- Develop accurate simulation models of HVAC systems, lighting, and building envelopes to estimate energy consumption and demand for both new and existing commercial and residential buildings.
- Analyze and calculate energy consumption and demand savings associated with energy conservation measures for new construction and retrofit projects.
- Provide technical feedback and performance insights to architects and other project stakeholders during the design process.
- Collaborate with engineers to review and optimize HVAC and lighting designs for energy efficiency and operational performance.
- Ensure project compliance with applicable energy codes and standards, including relevant documentation and reporting.
- Prepare and complete energy code compliance reports required for building permit applications.
- Develop comprehensive documentation on building performance and recommended facility improvement measures, including detailed descriptions, projected savings, cost estimates, and supporting data for verification.
Education & Experience
- Graduation as a Mechanical Engineer from an accredited university, or as a Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Technician or Technologist.
- Certification as a Building Energy Modelling Professional (BEMP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) is considered an asset
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience doing building energy simulations with IES VE or any other software.
- Experience working in a consulting environment is an asset.
- Experience delivering written and oral reports to communicate technical analysis.
Technical Abilities:
- A strong understanding of building envelopes, mechanical and electrical building systems, energy project implementation and the building construction process.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT and IESVE.
- Working knowledge of the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB), ASHRAE 90.1 standards, and the BC Step Code
- A self-starter with the ability to produce and implement creative and innovative solutions
- The ability to build long-lasting relationships with clients and other key players
