Director of Finance – Full-Time, In-Office – Downtown Toronto

A well-established, multi-service law firm located in the heart of downtown Toronto is seeking a Director of Finance to join its leadership team. Position Overview:

The Director of Finance will oversee all financial operations across the Accounting, Billing, and Collections teams. Reporting directly to the COO, this individual will play a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, and team leadership. The role demands a strong understanding of law firm financial structures, including partnership accounting and tax filings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the Finance department, including general ledger, cash flow, tax filings (HST/GST/VAT), and partner capital/draws.

  • Prepare and analyze monthly and year-end financial statements.

  • Lead the annual budget process, year-end audit, and all tax filings (Partnership Information Returns, Corporate Tax Returns).

  • Provide strategic insights and financial guidance to the COO and senior leadership.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and stay current with changes in accounting and tax legislation.

  • Develop and implement accounting policies and operational procedures.

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate the Finance team to promote growth and efficiency.

  • Maintain and improve financial systems through regular review and stakeholder feedback.

  • Support Law Society filings and other regulatory requirements.

  • Handle ad hoc financial duties and projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation.

  • Minimum 10 years in a senior finance leadership role, with proven experience managing a high-performing finance team.

  • Law firm experience is required.

  • In-depth knowledge of partnership accounting, partnership agreements, and tax matters relevant to legal practices.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

This role is fully in-office and based in downtown Toronto.
