Summary

The Site Assistant will be required to perform tasks involving physical labor at commercial construction projects and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities will include the cleaning and preparation of work-sites, installing finishes protection/ floor protection, cleaning up rubble and debris and removal of waste materials.

Core Competencies

  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces and other temporary structures, garbage chutes if required
  • Instate floor-protection and finishes protection as directed by MARANT Site Superintendents
  • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
  • Provide assistance to craft/ trade workers as directed by the Site Superintendent
  • Perform demolition work and salvage useful materials
  • Use computers and other input devices
  • Oversee trades and subcontractor, suppliers and others on site
  • Checks and monitors workflow
  • Acts as a lead hand to other laborers and external staff
  • Represents MARANT in the absence of the Site Superintendents on project site
  • Monitors and ensures compliance to health and safety standards
  • Demonstrates positive, supportive attitude about MARANT and clients
  • Collaborate with site superintendents, subcontractor and others to maximize performance
  • Ensure job related boards, notices, paper work, safety station, job-box etc., are complete and available as per requirements
  • Demonstrates responsibility for contributing to the success of the project

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Post-Secondary diploma in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a General Laborer preferred
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Current certification in WHMIS, Working from Heights and Basics in Supervision
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills

  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary for construction
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current

  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in basic construction processes

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour
  • Demonstrate ability to keep areas clean and tidy and equipment in good repair
  • Demonstrates ability to perform more advanced jobs such as installing hardware and other jobs that require basic carpentry skills
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with trades in a professional manner
  • Keeps all required certificates up-to-date
  • Able to work the site with minimum supervision
  • Constant and detailed communication with Site Superintendent providing information about project progress
  • Takes responsibility for initiating communication

  • Insures effective communication with other support staff regarding paperwork, deliveries, etc.
  • Ability to multitask work on multiple projects in different locations or oversees large diverse workforce
