Job description

The KitchenHood Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, servicing, and maintaining kitchen fire suppression systems, primarily wet and dry chemical systems. This includes associated piping, nozzles, and components, along with fire extinguishers and related life safety equipment. Youll ensure all systems meet performance, safety, and code standards.

The Kitchen Hood Technician is a full-time position and is responsible for, but not limited to the following tasks:

Primary Accountabilities:

Installation:

  • Install kitchen fire suppression systems and associated components.
  • Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.

Inspection and Testing:

  • Conduct inspections and functional tests per codes, local standards and manufacturer requirements.
  • Identify and document deficiencies or hazards during field inspections.

Service and Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance: clean and service nozzles, piping, and detection lines.
  • Provide clear recommendations for repairs or upgrades.

Troubleshooting and Repair:

  • Diagnose system issues or failures and complete timely, code-compliant repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all work completed.

Other Duties:

  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergency service.
  • Maintain clean vehicle and tools; represent CFLS with professionalism on all job sites.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Organized, efficient, and tech-savvy (we use mobile inspection tools)
  • Able to work solo or as part of a crew, including on active construction sites

Qualifications:

  • Valid G-class drivers license with a clean abstract
  • Prior experience in kitchen suppression systems or fire protection an asset
  • Pipe fitting/threading knowledge preferred
  • Familiarity with applicable Fire and Building Codes considered a plus
  • Willingness to work occasional night shifts or travel out of town if needed
  • Physically fit to handle tools, ladders, and equipment safely
