About the Role
We are seeking an IT System Administrator for a full-time, 4-year contract position. The System Administrator ensures the seamless operation and security of our technical infrastructure, empowering our AI researchers and engineers to focus on advancing our mission of AI for good and for all.
Reporting to the Director, IT, the System Administrator is responsible for maintaining and optimizing our company's IT infrastructure. This includes ensuring the availability, security, and performance of all systems, managing hardware and software resources, and providing technical support to staff. The System Administrator plays a crucial position in enabling our AI teams to perform cutting-edge research and development without technical hindrances.
The position focuses on achieving excellence in three main accountabilities:
- System Maintenance & Optimization
- Security Management
- Technical Support
Required Skills / Expertise
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides technical support to users by assisting with job submissions, troubleshooting issues, and resolving problems
- Manages and maintains Linux-based and Windows servers, ensuring high availability, performance, and security by performing regular updates, patches, and backups, while also configuring and managing essential network services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, and SNMP
- Recommends & updates standard tech packages for staff considering job requirements, latest technology and budget; deployment of tech packages to new staff
- Automates system tasks with scripts (e.g., Bash) for backups, monitoring, and user management, and use configuration management tools to ensure system consistency
- Manages and administers SaaS applications such as Slack, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Google Cloud, Adobe Creative Cloud and ensure proper configuration, integration, and security of these applications
- Plans, tests, and deploys system upgrades and patches, keeping systems updated with security and performance enhancements, and coordinating maintenance to minimize user impact
- Monitors system logs and performance metrics to proactively resolve issues, troubleshoot problems with vendors and support teams, and manage monitoring tools for real-time system health
- Implements and maintains virtualization and containerization solutions (e.g., VMware) to optimize resource use and ensure secure, efficient operation
- Assist in daily operations and maintenance of the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster running on Linux and SLURM, including monitoring system health and performance.
- Assists in expanding HPC resources based on user needs and growth projections, and maintain capacity planning models for scalability and performance
Qualifications:
- System Administration Certificate or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in a similar position
- Knowledge of Mac operating system, in addition to Linux & Windows
- Experience with various networking, routers and firewalls products
- Experience with VMware and KVM Hypervisors
- Experience with backup and data management solutions
- Knowledge of Active Directory and LDAP
- Experience with network management protocols (DHCP and DNS)
- Knowledge of Cloud platforms (Google Suite, Microsoft 365, Slack, ManageEngine MDM)
- Knowledge of network and system security (e.g. access management, authentication policies, and routing)
