THE OPPORTUNITY:
TechInsights is hiring a full-time Electronic Measurement Specialist to join our team. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for performing advanced, often complex, sub-miniature electronic micro-soldering modifications in a variety of electronic product PCBs by tapping into the delicate, densely populated circuits and conduct live electronic measurements. Devices under test must be first non-destructively disassembled and later re-assembled, which often includes creating unique and non-standard methods of access to normally inaccessible or unserviceable structures, while making sure that the product stays fully operational after the re-assembly.
At TechInsights, almost every project is interesting, technically challenging and often very different from one another, whether it is performing correlated measurements determining details associated with power management algorithms within a complex SoC design, determining optical implementation details at play inside the leading-brand oximeter, or a high power laser welder. Other category of projects includes using scanning electron microscope to land a set of nano-probes onto a silicon die to electrically characterize individual transistors in state-of-the-art CPU, RAM or SSD chips.
At this level, you are an individual contributor with very strong, precise, ultra-fine rework skills and electronics knowledge acquired through work experience and education. Electronic Measurement Specialist applies learned skills and knowledge to complete the assigned tasks while working autonomously on routine tasks and receives guidance and supervision for complex tasks. The incumbent learns and uses established practices and standard procedures to complete assignments, and willingly accepts guidance and feedback to improve skills.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Specific tasks:
    • You would be working in our Electronics Reverse Engineering Lab performing systems analysis on modern electronic systems.
    • Assess electrical, thermal, mechanical, structural properties of various design features in electronic products.
    • Evaluate various electronic system designs with an objective to implement least-intrusive methods of live electronic measurements
    • Non-destructively disassemble and reassemble modern, complex, miniature electronic products such as smartphones, watches, etc.
    • Devise and implement a suitable system instrumentation (often a unique, custom, micro-connectivity method, process, implementation) to specific circuit points in existing, extreme-high-density PCBs populated with sub-millimeter-sized surface mount components.
    • Safely interface the instrumented re-assembled hardware to standard electronic lab test equipment, such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.
    • Perform advanced electronic measurements within the fully functional electronic systems and interpret the results.
    • Perform semiconductor component characterization within the silicon die (this includes the sample prep as well as the SEM-based nanoprobing).
    • Based on your meticulous work, process the collected data sets, draw conclusions and generate high quality technical reports that are published for industry-expert customer use.
  • General tasks:
    • Create and maintain well defined environment that guarantees comparable electronic test runs
    • Exercise systematic approach in your analysis and be able to take experimental steps if needed to achieve technical goals
    • Evaluate alternative processes and techniques and propose the best alternatives to peers while participating in a constructive technical team discussion
    • Generate contemporaneous notes and documentation describing your lab activity, your findings and your technical solutions, thus contributing to SRED program
    • Routinely use lab microscope in assessing often extremely small features in modern electronic consumer products
    • Routinely use micro-soldering iron as well as hot-air station for component replacement, PCB rework and new connectivity introduction
    • Learn, understand, adhere to, and meticulously perform existing procedures and suites of tests
    • Proactively research newest tools, technologies and processes in the industry and apply these to achieve your technical goals.
    • Maintain Electronic Lab environment, tools, facilities in top shape and well organized
WHO YOU ARE
  • Required:
    • Experience having worked in an electronics lab environment is a requirement
    • Demonstrable experience in SMT electronics rework
    • Working knowledge of electronic component types, including integrated circuits, integrated circuit packaging, printed circuit boards, interfaces, protocols and common standards
    • Good understanding and experience with typical electronic lab test equipment, including Data acquisition systems and electronic measurements
    • Good grasp of general physics and ability to discern manufacturing techniques, material types, etc.
  • Expected:
    • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
    • Attention to detail, super-steady hands and excellent manual dexterity is a prerequisite for your success
    • Experience with using digital optical photography and microscopy
    • Knowledge of health and safety protocols, ideally WHMIS
    • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, meeting sometimes aggressive due dates
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Able to contribute to team's technical discussions, propose ideas, out-of-the-box solutions
  • Asset:
    • Experience in phone repair will be an asset.
    • Experience of working with SEM analysis
    • Ability to automate test processes, analyze datasets, etc.
    • Experience working in electronics manufacturing

As part of the recruitment process for this position, you will be required to submit your latest citizenship and/or permanent residency information. This information will be used to comply with U.S. Export Control Laws and Regulations.

WHY WORK WITH US
