Water Employee
The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Water Employee.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager Water Services/ORO. The Water Employee, independently, or as part of the Water Services Division team, will perform a multitude of skilled and semi-skilled tasks, including the operation of heavy machinery, locating and metering equipment. The Water Employee utilizes GIS mapping software and applies their working knowledge in interpreting blueprints/drawings to aide in the construction, repair and maintenance of the water distribution system as well as various public buildings and facilities. The Water Employee collaborates with private contractors as authorized and oversees and inspects the work to ensure projects are performed and completed as planned. Other duties include maintaining work and preventative maintenance records, addressing public inquires and customer billing issues, completing infrastructure locates per Ontario One Call. On a regular basis, the Water Employee liaises with municipal staff, contractors/suppliers, Ministry officials / inspectors, auditors and the general public maintaining co-operative working relationships with all groups. To ensure compliance and conformance to current standards legislated by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks the Water Employee is required to maintain detailed and concise records and logs.
Qualifications and Requirements
The successful candidate must possess: a minimum Grade 12 education, a Drinking Water Operator Class 1 Water Distribution License, a valid “D” driver's license with “Z” endorsement, and experience in the use of heavy equipment. The preferred candidate will have obtained a University and/or Community College degree in Environment Technology or related field and have construction experience in the water industry. Candidates who have Cross Connection Control (CCC) course and OWWA Certified Cross Connection Control Specialist would be considered an asset. In addition, the preferred candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills. Previous utility or plumbing experience, ability to read blueprints, knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting, and knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, EUSA guidebook, Safe Drinking Water Act, and associated regulations pertaining to distribution operators will be considered assets.

Salary
This position is vacant due to a resignation. The Town offers a hourly rate of $29.83 - $38.28 (2024), in accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 702.1. This position is subject to a trial period of sixty (60) days of work.
