Overview
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the full-cycle accounting and financial activities, preparing financial reports, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will have senior-level accounting experience with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Full-Cycle Accounting: Process and/or supervise accounts payable/receivable, inventory, payroll, billing, banking, and prepare reporting, financial statements and monthly results analysis
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support business objectives.
- Oversee account reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Conduct account analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure timely payroll processing and compliance with payroll regulations.
- Prepare and file GST returns, payroll and corporate tax filings.
- Ensure financial reporting compliance and respond to audit and internal reviewer inquiries.
- Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights critical to business decisions.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a strong foundation in accounting principles and financial reporting.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or equivalent, which is essential for higher-level accounting and financial management roles.
- Proven experience in a similar senior accounting role and at least several years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliation, with exposure to full-cycle accounting.
- Experience in managing or coordinating with internal teams and stakeholders across departments.
- Strong background in preparing consolidated financial reports, reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with standards ASPE.
- Superior Microsoft Excel sills for managing complex financial data, preparing reports, and performing analysis.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems, ADP and Epicor P21
- Strong understanding and hands on experience with GST, payroll processes, and tax filings.
- Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements, balance sheets, and KPI reports.
- Keen Attention to Detail Precision in reviewing financial documents, reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of transactions.
- Ability to coach, supervise, and support junior staff members, such as Accountants and AR/AP staff.
- Strong Communication Skills with ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both internal stakeholders and external auditors.
- Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking Skill in identifying financial issues, recommending solutions, and implementing changes.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, particularly around month-end and year-end reporting cycles.
- French language (reading, writing, speaking) a strong asset but not required
