This summer student opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - HOMES -Niagara Falls

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Support and encourage attendance and participation in programs
  • Participate in programs as a role model, mentor and coach to tenants.
  • Work with recreation supervisor, teams and tenants in program development and implementation
  • Lead recreation programs on-sites, Good Food Box program, trips outings, and volunteer programs.
  • Work with recreation supervisor to identify participant needs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Good Shepherd staff, community mental health agencies and community partners.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Current enrollment in (or graduate in 2025) in a recreation and Leisure Program, Kinesiology Program, or social services program.
  • Have an ability to work from an anti-racist/anti-oppressive approach
  • Belief in and understanding of Recovery
  • Knowledge of recreation opportunities
  • Able to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to encourage and motivate change
  • Creative, innovative, flexible personality with the ability to multi-task.
  • Respectful and compassionate demeanor
  • Driver's licence preferred and a vehicle available for work
  • Must have CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain

Hiring Criteria - the following criteria is established by Canada Summer Job:

This temporary full-time position is funded by Service Canada for youth between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age.

  • Applicants may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as they were 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • As per the Summer Canada Jobs Program criteria:
    • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
    • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
