Position Overview
The Cook is a restaurant worker who is responsible for preparing food items in accordance with company standards and guidelines. They are responsible for the preparation and presentation of food for guests. Taking direction from the Food and Beverage (F&B) Manager, they work with the team to ensure guest experience is offered and maintained at the highest level.
Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)
In this role, you will:
- Assist the F&B Manager in developing menus, recipes, and line assembly sheets to ensure streamlined food operations.
- Be responsible for ensuring all daily, weekly and monthly ongoing cleaning, sanitization and maintenance of kitchen areas and equipment are followed.
- Prepare and serve food to guests.
- Answer guest inquiries about the menu, ingredients and pricing regarding food and beverage.
- Maintain a tidy environment, and clean high-contact surfaces and tables both indoors and outdoors.
- Clean and restock work and customer service areas, empty trash and sanitize equipment and utensils.
- Learn about cooking methods, food costings, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
- Complete inventory and replenish items as required.
- Serve guests in a professional, prompt and friendly manner.
- Support other Malahat SkyWalk departments as needed to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience, Abilities and Qualifications To excel in this role, you should demonstrate:
- 3+ years experience cooking.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess a valid BC FOODSAFE Level 1 Certification.
- Possess a current BC Serving it Right certification - Or be willing to complete certification as required.
- Personable and outgoing.
- A high degree of thoughtfulness in dealing with the public.
- The ability to thrive in a team setting and possess the skills necessary to work independently.
- The ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a friendly professional attitude.
- Capacity to safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Asset Qualifications
The following qualifications are not mandatory; however, they are preferred and will be considered assets:
- Proficiency in a second language
- Basic First Aid (OFA Level 1)
Work Conditions
- This position requires flexibility to accommodate the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
- Cross-training in other departments will be required to support the overall guest experience at Malahat SkyWalk. You will also be required to learn about our location, its history, foliage and geography, etcetera in order to answer questions from our guests.
- This position requires working in variable weather conditions.

Pay Range: $ 24.00 - $28.00 per hour
Position Type: Up to 40 hours per week (based on operational requirements)
