DescriptionJoin Orangutech as an SDE2 on Pathlight.ai, our innovative in-house AI/ML product. As a core member of the development team, you'll contribute to building and scaling a robust architecture, implementing new features, and optimizing system performance. You'll work closely with other engineers, data scientists, and product managers to deliver solutions that support our clients—primarily within the Government of Canada. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful, real-world AI/ML applications in the public sector while growing your technical skills in a collaborative environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities for SDE2 – Pathlight.ai Development Team
Software Development & Engineering:
  • Design, develop, and maintain core components of the Pathlight.ai platform, with a focus on scalable, secure, and cloud-native solutions within the Microsoft ecosystem (M365, Azure, etc.).
  • Develop and integrate AI/ML features in collaboration with data scientists and AI developers, contributing to intelligent automation and decision-support capabilities.
  • Implement responsive, user-centric interfaces by contributing to UI/UX development and optimizing user experience across the platform.
  • Collaborate in Agile sprint cycles, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Conduct peer code reviews and contribute to improving development standards and best practices.
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code aligned with team standards.
  • Work closely with AI developers and manager to troubleshoot issues and ensure high-quality releases.
  • Stay current with changes in the Microsoft ecosystem (M365, Azure, etc.) and assess their impact on the product.
  • Help document user stories and technical requirements in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Participate in internal meetings alongside Solutions Engineers and Account Executives to gather technical insights and understand use cases.
  • Communicate development progress, blockers, and risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the broader Orangutech team to support deployments and contribute to the long-term evolution of the Pathlight.ai platform.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and mentor junior developers when needed.

Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseQualifications – SDE2 (Software Development Engineer 2)
  • 4–6 years of experience in hands-on product development, ideally within a SaaS or cloud-based environment.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies with experience contributing to sprints, code reviews, and collaborative development.
  • Proficient in at least two modern programming languages or frameworks such as Java, C#, .NET, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python.
  • Practical experience building scalable, secure, and resilient applications in cloud environments (e.g., Azure or AWS), including considerations like load balancing, data storage, and access control.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD practices to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation and development support materials.
  • Working knowledge of software testing methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, and optionally TDD or BDD practices.
  • Experience creating and managing Terraform build scripts or equivalent infrastructure-as-code tools is a strong asset.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple layers of the stack (e.g., APIs, cloud services, front-end bugs, performance bottlenecks).
  • Experience working with Microsoft technologies such as Azure and M365 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with relational (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL database systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and client-facing teams.
  • Foundational understanding of AI/ML concepts and terminology; prior experience with model integration or development is a plus.
  • Awareness of Government of Canada (GoC) security requirements, cloud policies, or protected data handling practices is an asset.

BONUS: Working with Microsoft Graph API (for accessing M365 data across Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.)
  • Familiarity with SharePoint Framework (SPFx) and Power Platform extensibility
