Department Head

Trades, Technology, Regional Access

Duties: The Department Head will be assigned duties and responsibilities by the Dean. These duties will include assisting the Dean on an ongoing basis, with the day-to-day general administration, supervision and coordination of a department; direction of departmental curricula, standards and instruction; and liaison between the faculty within the department and other Department Heads and Deans and between the department and personnel at the campuses involved with the programs and courses comparable to those within the departments in Cranbrook.

The total term of appointment for a Department Head shall be three (3) years. After successfully serving a twelve (12) month probationary period, the Department Head will be confirmed for the additional two (2) years of the term. Department Head positions can be filled by an incumbent for a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms before a competition is held again.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; a Master's degree or Red Seal certification are considered strong assets. Applicants should have several years of instructional experience and demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Experience with program approval and accreditation processes is also considered an asset.

As an employee of the College of the Rockies the successful candidate is expected to be a lifelong learner who continues to develop their skills to help the College meet the needs of our students and our other valued clients.

Salary: As per the Faculty Salary Schedule and depending on qualifications, instructional and related work experience, the salary for auxiliary employees is in a range from $70,437 - $112,872 per year. In addition, the Department Head will receive a $8,268 annual stipend. Other terms and conditions vary from regular faculty positions, as follows:

  • Vacation at 6 weeks per year
  • Professional development - up to 10 days per year.
