J.S. Held is presently seeking an engineering student to provide support in the Surety/Construction Advisory division of the firm. The Surety/Construction Advisory division primarily consults on construction projects in which a contract default has occurred. This allows for a unique opportunity to investigate the causes behind project defaults and work with our clients to develop solutions.
The successful candidate will develop fundamental skills to the construction industry through the analysis of contracts, schedules, drawings, and costs. Opportunities will also be available to visit multiple active construction sites and track their progress throughout the duration of the co-op term.

Job Responsibilities:
- Detailed review of construction contracts, drawings, and specifications
- Visiting construction sites alongside supervisors and recording information regarding site conditions
- Attend various meetings with clients, project owners, general contractors, and subcontractors
- Detailed review of progress draws, invoices, and supporting documentation related to labour and materials
- Analysis of project costs
- Project schedule review and analysis
- Collaboratively developing recommendations for our clients
- Intermittent administrative duties
Required Qualifications:
- Able to commute to Etobicoke, Ontario (East of Pearson Airport)
- Analytical abilities
- A commercial or contract mindset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Proficient in Excel
- Ability to write technical documents
- Able to work as part of a team
- Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $25 - $28/hour. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
