Who We Are
The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.
Who You Are
The File Clerk for Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society is responsible for maintaining accurate, organized, and up-to-date records related to clients and services provided. This role ensures that all physical and electronic files are correctly stored, easily accessible, and compliant with confidentiality requirements. The File Clerk will also support the Child & Family Services team by performing administrative tasks, including filing, retrieving records, and assisting with other clerical duties as needed.
This position is in Fort McMurray, AB.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Ensure all client files (both physical and electronic) are filed, sorted, and organized according to department guidelines.
- Input client information into the filing system, both manually and electronically. Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of all data entered.
- Assist staff by retrieving and filing documents when needed. Ensure the retrieval process follows internal protocols to protect sensitive information.
- Regularly update files with current information, ensuring that all documents, notes, and forms are correctly attached and filed.
- Keep track of files, folders, and storage space. Order new supplies when necessary.
- Follow policies, procedures, and relevant regulations regarding documentation, client privacy, and file management.
- Perform other general office duties as assigned, including answering phones, making photocopies, and assisting in the preparation of reports or correspondence.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma is required.
Business administration certificate preferred.
Minimum 1-year of experience in an administrative role.
Experience working knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
Compassionate and empathetic, with a strong understanding of the needs and sensitivities of children and families
Ability to speak Cree or Dene is an asset.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Teams and virtual meeting platforms.
- Possess exceptional judgement and always maintain high confidentiality in all interactions.
- The ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of filing boxes or materials.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or filing area.
- Occasional travel to different sites or locations may be required
- Must be reliable and be prepared to work irregular hours depending on job demands.
- Must sign Oath of Confidentiality form.
