The Fort St. John Association for Community Living (FSJACL) is a non-profit agency committed to providing quality support to adults with developmental disabilities in the Fort St. John and District since 1960. As a CARF accredited agency, FSJACL boasts a professional staff team of over 80 employees dedicated to offering quality services and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Collaboration with community partners is integral to achieving the organization's vision of inclusion for all.
The Community Connections Inclusion program provides life skills to adult individuals living with developmental disabilities. The program addresses a wide range of needs and interests, including communication and social skills, physical development and health, community participation, employment, and independent living.
Community Inclusion offers supports tailored to individual's personal needs. The program supports approximately fifty individuals ranging from nineteen to eighty years old.
Responsibilities:
- Employees will be orientated to multiple areas within the program, including but not limited to community and home based 1 on 1. This means working with an adult with a developmental disability both in their home and in the community to support with them with life skills.
- Staff also organize and lead group activities including, but not limited to “in house” games, karaoke, life skills (reading, writing, math and money management, healthy relationships, cooking, cleaning, hygiene), science, aquaponics, drama and Art.
- Staff organize and lead group community activities, including but not limited to, attending movies, concerts, community gatherings, going to the library, exercising (going to the gym, walking track, swimming, outdoor walking trails) and many other fun activities.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge, understanding and willingness to learn about developmental disabilities, mental health and health services
- Commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity and inclusion
- Problem solving skills
- Flexibility and creativity
- Able to work shift work
- Provide a positive, respectful and safe work environment
- Compassionate towards people and can support in a non-judgmental way
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Valid Canadian drivers license. (Must have a Class 5 Drivers license).
- Vulnerable sector criminal record clearance. (Completed through the FSJACL after successful interview.)
- Clear Tuberculosis screening. (Instructions for booking screening will be provided after successful interview.)
- Must be at least 19 years of age or older. Applicants who turn 19 within the calendar year will be considered.
- Reliable vehicle.
This is a BCGEU unionized position, Grid level 10. ($25.95-$29.76/ hour, based on seniority or equivalent experience.)
