Job Description
My client is a forward-thinking engineering consultancy that provides comprehensive solutions for overhead and underground transmission/distribution systems, substations, fibre optic networks, and structural foundations related to power infrastructure. Their broad technical expertise enables involvement in projects spanning from initial concept design through to commissioning and operational launch.

They are currently looking to add a Senior Distribution Engineer to their team on a full-time basis. The position is based in Mississauga and offers a collaborative environment alongside a technically accomplished group of professionals. This role provides continuous opportunities to grow through diverse and complex engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Bring experience in civil and electrical engineering, construction, or telecommunications to support power infrastructure projects.

• Contribute to the design and planning of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems (4kV–500kV), including scope definition, cost estimation, and preparation of technical drawings aligned with industry codes and utility standards.

• Coordinate with both internal teams and external stakeholders to gather and clarify design inputs.

• Utilize software such as Quickpole or SpidaCalc to model and validate structural aspects of distribution systems.

• Perform electrical calculations such as load analysis and voltage drop assessments.

• Support civil and street lighting design initiatives for utility applications.

• Conduct design and inspection of aerial communication lines and poles, following CSA 22.3 No. 1-20 and Ontario Regulation 22/04.

• Navigate and manage permitting requirements with various regulatory bodies, including municipalities and transportation authorities.

• Compile technical data from vendors and project sources for integration into design packages.

• Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve design or project-related challenges.

• Assist in the development and maintenance of internal engineering guidelines and documentation.

• Work cross-functionally to ensure project timelines and design requirements are met.

• Perform design quality checks and peer reviews.

• Mentor and guide junior team members throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of five years' experience focused on electrical distribution design.

• Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

• Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Knowledge of Toronto Hydro Distribution Standards is preferred.

• Experience using MicroStation software is required.

• Understanding of utility operations, field practices, and electrical installation standards is considered an asset.
