Salary: $80,000-$95,000

Reporting to the VP of Accounting, the Assistant Controller will be an integral part of the accounting team, supporting all aspects monthly financial reporting and of annual working paper preparation, corporate tax accounting and HST filing. This role will work closely with development and property management divisions to ensure all financial reporting and annual working paper preparation is filed timely and accurately.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements for internal purposes for multiple entities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual budget comparison reports and forecasts for the development division
  • Support the VP of Accounting in preparation of a 5-year strategic plan
  • Prepare year-end working paper files for multiple GP and LP entities, holding companies, and trusts; coordinate the activities with external accountants to complete all year end work within committed deadlines; handle income tax filings and t-slips
  • Management of one direct report
  • Oversee insurance policies and procedures, including reconciliation for chargebacks
  • Oversee corporate credit card procedures, including administration of cards, financial analysis of transactions and any charge backs to related entities
  • Prepare and file all government remittances for multiple entities
  • Oversee and support the day-to-day accounting activities
  • Assist with indirect tax matters as required
  • Prepare account reconciliations
  • Participate in special projects as required

Required qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with corporate tax, either from public accounting or in industry
  • CPA Designation is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and their application within real estate development and construction industries
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to take initiative and thrive on ownership and responsibility
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities and to consistently meet deadlines
