Job Title: Intermediate Civil Engineer (Contract)

Position Summary:
My client is looking for an Intermediate Civil Engineer to support the design and development of high-quality infrastructure projects. This role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team on new developments, retrofits, and redevelopments in sectors such as power generation, process facilities, corporate, industrial, and manufacturing. The engineer will contribute throughout the design and construction lifecycle, adapting civil and structural plans to meet client needs, design constraints, and budget requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform civil and structural engineering design from conceptual development through to detailed design and construction support.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects, including power plants, process facilities, and industrial sites.

  • Apply sound knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles, codes, and practices within the industry.

  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration related to civil and steel package designs.

  • Conduct field inspections, take measurements, and perform engineering calculations for both public and private sector clients.

  • Coordinate with high-value engineering centers to ensure consistent project delivery and standards.

  • Review vendor documentation and packages related to steel design for compliance with project requirements.

  • Take ownership of assigned areas as a lead, designing civil and structural elements independently or as required by the project scope.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience (one of the following):

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program, with at least 3 years of civil engineering experience (consulting experience preferred).

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited program, with at least 3 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred).

  • OR Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred).

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of standard civil and structural engineering techniques, methodologies, and procedures.

  • High attention to detail with strong problem-solving, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong technical proficiency with engineering and design software such as:

    • AutoCAD

    • MicroStation

    • Tekla

    • SmartPlant 3D

    • BIM (Revit)

    • Civil 3D

    • RISA-3D

Certifications & Additional Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Alberta or another Canadian province is required.

  • Previous experience working on engineering projects in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada is preferred.
