Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Junior Accountant who will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of Retailors Sports Inc. The Junior Accountant will assist in maintaining the companys financial integrity, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures, and contributing to the preparation of financial reports. This role will involve assisting with financial analysis, addressing profit and loss concerns, and supporting communication with both internal teams and external partners. The Junior Accountant will work closely with senior team members to help drive financial performance and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
Job Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
The Junior Accountant is responsible for all areas relating to financial accounting and reporting. This includes developing and maintaining IFRS, practices and procedures to ensure compliance with publicly traded accounting practices and polices and accurate and timely financial statements preparation by all accounting team members. This position addresses several key areas, including, but not limited to:
- Accurate preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting
- SOX documentation and adherence
- Account reconciliations
- Profitability analysis
- Year end audit preparation
- Operational analysis
- Treasury
- Budgeting
Accounting and Reporting Responsibilities
Responsible for general ledger, including trial balance and reconciliation; and monthly financial statements, including collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Support month-end, quarte-end and year-end close process.
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Support Retailors Sports Incs annual budgeting process and monthly forecast and profit plan updates.
Support the management of banking relations and handle related requirements.
Support Director of Finance in all external audits.
Quarterly or Monthly HST filings of all entities.
Provide necessary documentation to joint venture partners.
Support the management of property insurance, including liaising with the insurance agent for renewals and new policies
Management Responsibilities
Oversee the bookkeeper's daily tasks, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all accounting functions.
Foster a positive working relationship with the accounting team, ensuring alignment with company policies and procedures.
Support the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate:
Degree in Accounting
CPA or equivalent designation is a plus, but not required.
3+ years of experience in an accounting role with experience in overseeing bookkeepers or junior accounting staff.
Familiarity with publicly traded companies or multi-location organizations is an asset.
Strong understanding of accounting principles (preferably IFRS).
Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting.
Experience with ERP software, with NetSuite being an asset.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Skills:
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interpret and present financial information.
Ability to work independently, plan and execute tasks efficiently.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage relationships across departments.
Proficiency with accounting software and Excel.
